Book Fair and MCS Trip
Today was quite an adventure. My sister and I went "manga-hopping" at World Trade Center and Makati Cinema Square. It was surprisingly easy to got to WTC. Thank God for orange jeeps. XD There was just a slight problem getting back. XD Most of the jeeps were full since the jeep stop is at Mall of Asia. ^^Our primary purpose was to visit CCHQ's stall. (Many thanks to Khursten for publicizing it. XD) It was a wise choice to get there early since it's already a closing out sale. There were a lot of good stuffs there. Most of the ones I remember are shoujo. XD - Gundam Seed - Gundam Seed Astray - Sakura Taisen - Love Hina - Rizel Mine - Alice 19th - Hanakimi - Koucha Ouji (*_*) - Genso Suikoden III - Kare Kano - Fun Fun Factory - Pretear - B-wanted - Fruit Basket - other Yuu Watase works - Detective Conan - Kaori Yuki works - Ragnarok Doujins (O_O) ... ahhh... they're all slipping away from my memory. XD If you don't mind Japanese tanks, it's a great bargain. All Japanese tanks for 100 each. XD Just don't expect that the volumes will be complete. The only shoujo ones that I noticed that were complete were Pretear and Fun Fun Factory. I bought all the remaining Hanakimi tanks for my cousin. XD I just had to call her on the spot to ask if she wants to buy it. Never mind that she's at work, it's an "urgent call". XD It was really great buy for her. As for us... not so much. We were looking for mangas to scanlate. End up buying two Kaori Yuki one-volume mangas. I did ask my friend to check the web for me to see if they've been scanlated before. He said it's incomplete so we bought it. When we got home, it turned out that both one-volume titles were scanlated completely. =/ Aww... so much for that. ^^ The owner was very nice. =D I wish CCHQ didn't close down. It was the first time I've been to a CCHQ booth. After a little chat, I found out that they closed down not because of the feasibility of the business but because the owners were moving on. One of them got married and had kids. The rest of the siblings live abroad. And her mother needs her to assist in their family business. It was comforting to know that the animanga industry in the country isn't going down. XD After CCHQ, we visited other bigger stalls such Powerbooks, Fully Booked, NBS and A Different Bookstore. Some of them are having a sale on graphic novels too (especially A Different Bookstore - some licensed stuff costs 195 only. XD). Next stop was Makati Cinema Square. We were rather nervous to go as we've never been there before and Makati isn't our turf. *__* Good thing the manong in the jeepney was nice enough to tell us where to stop and what jeep to take next. XD (Okay, just dropping my notes... So it's from Gil Puyat LRT station, jeep to Chino Roces, get down at the Red Ribbon/Isuzu corner, ride the Mantrade jeep to Makati Cinema Square. XD) When we got inside, it was really confusing. We didn't know where the shop is located. Even as we looked around, we couldn't find the shop. The guards didn't even know about JF Animedia. They told me there's no shop by that name there. Part of me wanted to go home. After all, it didn't seem like a clean and friendly place. On the contrary, it looks... rundown. My dad would probably raise eyebrows if he knew we went there. ^^ Even the Tutuban stores were livelier. But I wasn't ready to give up. After all, we went all the way there like lost kittens. T__T Plus, the fact that we have to spend on transportation too. I don't want to go back without a manga to scanlate. So we asked help from Suoh-san and my cousin. With their directions, we finally found the shop. The reason why we couldn't find it is because the shop has no lights-on. It looked like a closed shop, tucked somewhere near the corner. It didn't have a conspicuous sign either. Turns out the shop had a brown-out that week so we had to browse at the manga shelves with a flashlight. ^^;; It has, by far, the biggest selection of "raw" mangas I've ever seen. (If you know somewhere else, drop me a note. =P) Too bad most of the titles were already scanlated. If not, it doesn't suit our taste. But we did end up with a one-volume manga by Hiromu Muto (the mangaka of Never Give Up!/Gambatte!). I'm not sure if it'll be popular. After all, the lack of bishounens is a huge factor to consider. ^^ Lol. So much for that. If you know other shops that offers recent Chinese and Japanese tankoubons, please drop me a line. =D
